September 28, 1960. Ted Williams steps to the plate for the final time in his 19th season with the Boston Red Sox, bringing with him a .344 career batting average, 19 all star appearances, 2 AL MVP Awards, 6 Batting titles, 2 Triple Crowns, 521 home runs, .482 on base percentage, as well as two stints in the military serving in WW2 and the Korean War. Ted Williams had one goal in life, to be know as the greatest hitter who ever lived. Mission accomplished. About that final at bat, Williams homered in the 8th inning to cap off an amazing career. Offered is a Boston Red Sox cap worn by Williams in his final season of 1960. This Tim McAuliffe size 7 professional model cap shows heavy use, evident by the loose leather band and cracked brim. Williams famous number 9 is written in vintage ink under the brim. Obtained directly from Williams by a former major league umpire , who collected game used items from several players. Original typed note for this cap used to describe this cap as it was displayed for years in his home. LOA Mears and Dave Miedema.
